Direct Wealth(正財)

Steady income, or Direct Wealth (Jeongjae, 正財), is the Ten God assigned to a heavenly stem · earthly branch whose element your Day Master controls (剋) and whose yin-yang polarity is opposite to yours. It names wealth you manage through regular, established means.

In plain terms, it means “money that comes in steadily”. Its pillar shows where regularly received money, such as salary · savings · fixed income, appears in your chart.

Traits

The table above lists the Direct Wealth stems and branches for all ten Day Masters. Wealth is the element you control, and Direct Wealth is a character of that element with the opposite yin-yang polarity. A Gap Wood (甲) Day Master controls Earth, so yin Earth, Gi Earth (己), is its Direct Wealth. Its Direct Wealth branches are Chuk (丑) and Mi (未), whose main hidden stem is Gi Earth. For an Eul Wood (乙) Day Master, Direct Wealth is instead yang Earth, Mu Earth (戊), along with Jin (辰) · Sul (戌). The same element switches between Direct and Indirect Wealth depending on your Day Master's polarity, so check your own row.

Wealth uses the “depleting” color in the four-level relationship display — earning money takes your energy. Direct Wealth is the complementary-polarity side (正) of Wealth, traditionally read as a set amount arriving through an established channel. Salary, rent, savings, and income entered in a ledger are typical examples. It therefore represents the saving and preserving side of managing money.

Direct Wealth in the year pillar is read as inherited family assets; in the month pillar, it represents pay from work and income earned in society. In the day branch, it occupies the partner seat — traditional saju reads Direct Wealth as the wife in a man's chart. In the hour pillar, it represents money in later life and money brought by children. Direct Wealth in the month branch gives its name to the Direct Wealth pattern.

Two or more Direct Wealth characters are traditionally read as a stronger hold on resources and more careful accounting. If Wealth is especially strong, we also check whether your own strength, represented by Peers, can support it—a configuration called abundant wealth with a weak self. Having no Direct Wealth does not mean having no money. The reading may instead focus on money moving in larger amounts through Indirect Wealth, or on ten-year periods that bring Wealth.

Seowoon's free Ten Gods reading, “Ten Gods Structure”, shows how strongly Wealth is represented and where Direct Wealth appears. Groups with a value of 0 remain dotted, so an empty Direct Wealth position is shown as empty.

A common misconception

You may hear both “Direct Wealth = a miser” and “Direct Wealth makes you rich”, but neither is a calculated finding. Direct Wealth names a regular way money comes in, not an amount or a personality.Thrift is a traditional interpretation, and no amount of money is written anywhere in a birth chart. Seowoon only makes definite statements about how many Direct Wealth characters you have and which pillars they occupy.

Frequently asked questions

How is a lot of Direct Wealth interpreted?

Traditionally, it suggests a stronger hold on resources, careful accounting, and a habit of preserving what you have. If Wealth is stronger than the self, we also look for Peers · Resource to help support it. The count is calculated; money amounts and personality are not.

Does Direct Wealth mean a wife in a man's chart?

Traditional saju reads Wealth as a partner in a man's chart, with Direct Wealth commonly representing the wife. In a woman's chart, Direct Wealth is read in terms of income and the father rather than a partner. That is the traditional rule; Direct Wealth alone cannot establish a partner's character or the timing of marriage.

What careers suit Direct Wealth?

It is associated with work where money follows established channels, such as accounting, finance, administration, and salaried jobs. But Direct Wealth alone does not determine a career. We also look at how it connects with Output, which creates things, and Officer, which represents rules.
