Eating God(食神)

Eating God (Siksin, 食神) is the Ten God assigned to heavenly stems and earthly branches whose element your Day Master generates (生), or gives rise to, and whose yin-yang polarity matches yours.

In plain terms, it means “the ability to create steadily”. Its position shows where your inner resources find an outlet through speech·writing·food·finished work.

Traits

The table shows the Eating God stems and branches for each of the 10 Day Masters. There is one rule — the element you generate is Output (Siksang, 食傷). Within it, matching yin-yang polarity makes it Eating God; opposite polarity makes it Hurting Officer. A Gap Wood (甲) Day Master generates Fire, so Byeong Fire (丙) is Eating God. Among the branches, Sa (巳) is Eating God because its main hidden stem is Byeong Fire. Sa (巳) is a yin branch, but its main hidden stem is yang. Looking only at the branch's polarity can lead you to mistake it for Hurting Officer.

The Output group receives the “Expenditure” color in the 4-level relationship scale because it represents your energy flowing outward. Eating God flows gently toward the same yin-yang polarity, so traditional saju considers it the most easygoing of the 10 Ten Gods. That is why its name includes the character for eating (食) — making a living, creating things that nourish others, and patiently refining a talent all reflect Eating God.

Eating God in the year pillar is read as a sign of family abundance; in the month pillar, as finding your place through productive work. In the day branch, it suggests nourishment from the partner seat; in the hour pillar, it is associated with children and sustenance later in life. Traditional saju associates Output with children in a woman's chart, linking Eating God in the hour pillar to children.

If Eating God appears 2 or more times, it is read as a strong creative drive, ready expression, and an active life. A general interpretation also holds that more than 3 can become forceful, like Hurting Officer. If it is absent, the reading suggests things building up inside without an easy outlet. That absence describes the birth chart; the outlet is considered to open when Eating God arrives through a ten-year or annual cycle.

A common misconception

You may hear “Eating God = loving food” or “Having Eating God makes you gain weight”. But eating (食) here refers to making a living from what you create, not your appetite. Traditional saju considers Eating God favorable because it restrains the intense pressure of Seven Killings, a principle called Eating God controlling Killings. It does not mean good fortune arrives on its own.The calculation establishes only where the characters you generate appear and how many there are.

Frequently asked questions

What does a large amount of Eating God mean?

In saju, it is read as a strong productive drive that favors expression and activity. More than 3 is sometimes interpreted as a more forceful outflow, like Hurting Officer. The next step is to check whether Wealth is present to receive that output. A large count is a calculation; it does not determine whether that energy becomes talent or distraction.

What careers suit Eating God?

In saju, Eating God is associated with work that produces something tangible — cooking, writing, making things, teaching, or creating content. But career readings also consider Wealth, which turns that output into income, and Officer, which provides structure. Eating God alone does not determine a career.

How do Eating God and Hurting Officer differ?

Both belong to the element you generate. Matching yin-yang polarity makes it Eating God; opposite polarity makes it Hurting Officer. Eating God represents steady creation, while Hurting Officer represents challenging conventions and bringing things into the open. For a Gap Wood Day Master, Byeong Fire (丙) is Eating God and Jeong Fire (丁) is Hurting Officer.
