Companion(比肩)
Someone who stands alongside you as an equal, or Companion (Bigyeon, 比肩), is the Ten God assigned to a heavenly stem · earthly branch with the same element and yin-yang polarity as your Day Master. Its name means standing shoulder to shoulder.
In plain terms, it means “someone who stands alongside you as an equal”. Its pillar shows where people with strength like yours—siblings · friends · colleagues—stand with you or compete with you.

Traits
Companion is the easiest of the Ten Gods to find. In the table, the heavenly stem column contains just the same character as your Day Master — for a Gap (甲) Day Master, Gap is Companion. A branch counts as Companion when its main hidden stem matches your Day Master. For Gap, that is In (寅), whose main hidden stem is Gap Wood. Only Mu Earth (戊) · Gi Earth (己) Day Masters have two Companion branches each—Jin · Sul and Chuk · Mi—because Earth has four branches.
The Peer group (Companion · Rob Wealth) uses the “supportive” color in the four-level relationship display. It shares your strength and helps you hold your ground. Companion also shares your yin-yang polarity, so traditional saju reads it as straightforward competition, equal cooperation, and independence. The general interpretation is that a stronger presence makes it harder to delegate, while a weaker presence can make standing alone feel demanding.
Companion in the year pillar is read as siblings or relatives of the same generation; in the month pillar, it represents colleagues and competitors you meet in society. In the day branch, it places strength like yours in the partner seat; in the hour pillar, it represents children or companions in later life. Companion in the month branch is classified separately as the Established Prosperity pattern, a position associated with standing on your own.
When there are two or more Companion signs, tradition reads this as having many people like you to share your portion with. If Wealth is weak and Peer is strong, it also considers the pattern of many peers competing for limited wealth. No Companion signs is read as less strength to stand alone and more reliance on others. Still, your Day Master already represents you, so having no Companion signs does not mean you are absent from your chart.
In Seowoon's free Ten Gods reading, “Ten Gods Structure” shows the strength of your Peer group and the pillars containing Companion. On the Benefactor Map, people in the Peer group appear as “Life Benefactors”, with Companion shown as a filled position.
A common misconception
You may hear “Many Companion signs mean you're stubborn” or “People with Companion can't save money”, but the calculation only counts signs like your Day Master. It does not measure personality. The rule about divided wealth describes a strong Peer group with weak Wealth. A single Companion sign does not mean financial loss.In fact, a strong Peer group is more commonly read as greater strength to protect your Wealth.

Frequently asked questions
What does it mean to have many Companion signs?
In saju tradition, this suggests the strength to stand on your own, along with more people to share your portion with. If Wealth is weak, the rule about divided wealth also applies. More Companion signs push the Day Master's strength assessment toward the strong side. The count is calculated; stubbornness and personality are not.
How are Companion and Rob Wealth different?
Both share your Day Master's element. The same yin or yang polarity makes a sign Companion; the opposite polarity makes it Rob Wealth. Companion represents equals and direct competition, while Rob Wealth represents people who share your portion and competition from a different angle. For a Gap Wood Day Master, Gap (甲) is Companion and Eul (乙) is Rob Wealth.
What careers are associated with Companion?
Companion is commonly associated with work that requires standing on your own — self-employment, freelancing, professional practice, or sports. A career reading, however, considers how Output, Wealth, and Officer connect, not Companion alone. Seowoon only establishes the number and positions of Companion signs.
