Yang Blade Star(羊刃殺)

The Blade Star (Yangin-sal, 羊刃殺) is a symbolic star assigned when a chart contains the earthly branch corresponding to the Peak life stage of a yang Day Master (Gap · Byeong · Mu · Gyeong · Im). The pairs are Gap (甲) with Myo (卯), Byeong (丙) · Mu (戊) with O (午), Gyeong (庚) with Yu (酉), and Im (壬) with Ja (子).

In a chart, it is read as energy like your own gathering with blade-like intensity. Schools disagree on Yangin for yin Day Masters (Eul · Jeong · Gi · Sin · Gye), so Seowoon does not count those.

The Yang Blade is the branch where a yang Day Master reaches its greatest strength (Peak among the twelve life stages). Schools differ on the Yang Blade for yin Day Masters, so Seowoon does not count it — the same rule used to identify a Yang Blade chart pattern.

Traits

The table gives one Yangin branch for each of the five yang Day Masters. The Day Master is the reference point, and the matching branch qualifies in any pillar. Schools assign different Yangin positions to yin Day Masters, so Seowoon does not count them. This is the same matching rule used to identify a Yangin chart pattern.

In plain English, it is “a position as strong as a blade”. Yang (羊) means a sacrificial sheep, and In (刃) means a blade, so even the name has an edge. In saju, it is read as the strongest concentration of energy like your own, suggesting drive and a competitive spirit. If that strength overflows, it may turn against you. It means strong energy, not bad fortune.

In the month branch, it is called a Yangin pattern, meaning the chart's overall structure rests on powerful energy. In the year branch, its edge is read through family and childhood; in the day branch, through the partner seat; and in the hour branch, through later life and those junior to you. A nearby Officer influence, the energy that regulates you, is traditionally seen as giving that blade a useful purpose.

Two or more indicate a greater concentration of the same energy, so the reading advises care with excess force. Having none simply means that strong position is absent. Yin Day Masters are not counted in this system, so having none is expected for them.

Seowoon's free chart pattern (gyeok, 格) reading identifies the Yangin pattern when a yang Day Master has its Yangin branch in the month position. Yangin is not listed separately in the free symbolic star (sal, 煞) reading. If you know your Day Master, you can check it directly against the table above.

A common misconception

Claims like “Yangin = weapons · accidents” and “People with Yangin have violent tempers” circulate, but the calculation only checks a yang Day Master against a single earthly branch.Yangin is another name for the Peak position, where energy is at its strongest. It indicates strength. With an outlet, that strength is read as ability; without one, it is read as internal friction.

Frequently asked questions

Does Yangin mean I will have an accident?

No calculation guarantees an event. Saju simply reads this as a position of abundant strength and advises against turning that force on yourself. It does not predict an accident. A nearby Officer influence is generally read as helping regulate that strength.

What careers suit someone with Yangin?

It is often associated with work that requires strength and sharp precision, such as the military · policing · medicine · sports · technical work. This does not mean you must choose one of these careers. The idea is that these traits can shine when that strength has an outlet.

Can yin Day Masters have Yangin?

It depends on the school. Texts assign different Yangin positions to yin Day Masters, so Seowoon does not count them. It uses only the Peak life-stage positions for the five yang Day Masters, as shown in the table above.
