The Red Charm Star (Hongyeom-sal, 紅艶殺) is a symbolic star identified when a specific branch assigned to your birth day’s stem, or Day Master, appears in your chart. It is described as a place where attraction gathers.
Its presence is read as a tendency to draw people in without trying to stand out. Its absence does not mean you lack charm.

This star appears when the branch assigned to your Day Master occurs in any pillar. Assignments differ by one or two characters across schools — Seowoon uses this table.
Traits
The table assigns one Red Charm branch to each of the ten Day Masters. Unlike the twelve symbolic stars, it uses the Day Master rather than the year branch as its reference, and the assigned branch qualifies in any pillar. Schools differ on one or two of these assignments — Seowoon uses this table, so any differences from another school reflect Seowoon’s calculation rather than that school’s rules.
In plain terms, it is “a place where attraction gathers”. Peach Blossom, also called Yeon-sal, is read as visible charm that catches people’s eyes; Red Charm is read as a quieter force that draws them closer. Saju tradition generally associates it with warmth, affection, and an ability to attract people naturally. Its position guides the reading of what it draws in.
In the year branch, it suggests drawing people to you from an early age; in the month branch, connections through work and social life; in the day branch, attraction in the partner seat; in the hour branch, affection in later life and from younger people. Red Charm in the day branch is often considered in relationship readings.
Each Day Master has one assigned branch, so Red Charm usually appears once. If that branch occurs in two pillars, it is counted in both positions. Its absence does not mean there is no attraction; that quality may instead be read through other stars, such as Peach Blossom or the Heavenly Nobleman, or through the Ten Gods.
Below the twelve position-based stars, Seowoon’s free symbolic star (sal, 煞) reading separately lists five “Stars Read by Pillar and Character”. If you have Red Charm, it shows your Day Master, the matching branch, and its position. If Peach Blossom (Yeon-sal) is also present, both appear.
A common misconception
You may hear claims like “Red Charm Star = unfaithfulness” or “Women with the Red Charm Star have more relationship problems”, but the calculation only checks whether the branch assigned to the Day Master is present.Older texts framed this position in terms of sexual desire, reflecting the views of their time. Today, it is more commonly read as an ability to put people at ease. In symbolic star readings, too, it marks attraction rather than a harmful force to suppress.

Frequently asked questions
How is the Red Charm Star different from the Peach Blossom Star?
They use different starting points. Peach Blossom (Yeon-sal) is identified from your birth year’s branch, while Red Charm uses your Day Master. Saju tradition reads Peach Blossom as visible charm that catches the eye and Red Charm as a quieter pull that draws people closer. Both can appear in the same chart.
Is the Red Charm Star read differently for women and men?
The identification rule is the same, and the table does not change by gender. Older texts judged women’s Red Charm more harshly because of the views of their time, not because of a different calculation. Seowoon uses the same table and interpretation for everyone.
Does having the Red Charm Star mean I will cheat?
That is beyond what the calculation can answer. Red Charm suggests a quality that draws people toward you; how you use that attraction is your choice. Neither the general saju interpretation nor the calculation establishes how someone will behave.
