The Heavenly Benefactor (Cheoneul-gwiin, 天乙貴人) appears when your chart contains either of two branches assigned to your birth day's heavenly stem (Day Master). It is traditionally regarded as the foremost of the benefactors.
Its presence suggests help from others when you face obstacles. Its absence does not mean you have no benefactors; other benefactor placements and the Ten Gods can indicate support.

Traits
The table assigns two Heavenly Benefactor branches to each of the ten Day Masters. Unlike the twelve symbolic stars, it is based on the Day Master rather than the year branch. It applies if either branch appears in the year·month·day·hour position. This table varies little across schools, so Seowoon uses the classical arrangement.
In plain terms, it is “a place where help reaches you”. Traditionally, symbolic stars (sal, 煞) describe a placement's qualities, while benefactors represent a supporting hand. They commonly suggest unexpected help in a crisis or a difficult situation passing more gently. Symbolic stars and benefactors do not cancel each other out; they can sit alongside each other in the same chart.
In the year branch, it suggests help from family and during childhood. In the month branch, it points to support at work and from senior figures. In the day branch, a partner or someone close may be a benefactor. In the hour branch, it suggests help later in life and from younger or junior people. In the day branch, the partner seat is also a benefactor placement, so it often features in relationship readings.
If both branches appear, there are two places where help may reach you, strengthening the theme. If neither appears, other benefactors such as Literary Talent or Moon Virtue are considered. The calculation does not say that having no benefactor placements means having no supportive people. Charts with strong Resource·Peer groups can suggest plenty of support even without them.
Seowoon's free symbolic star (sal, 煞) reading shows the twelve stars and five additional stars identified by pillars and characters. It does not yet display Heavenly Benefactor separately. If you know your Day Master, you can check the table above directly. You can find your Day Master in the free day pillar reading.
A common misconception
Sayings like “With a benefactor, everything works out” and “A benefactor cancels out symbolic stars” are common. But a benefactor is not the opposite of a symbolic star.Just as symbolic stars are not inherently bad, benefactors are not guarantees. The traditional reading goes only as far as suggesting a tendency to receive help in hard times. The calculation identifies whether the listed branches are present. Whether help actually arrives depends on how you engage with those circumstances.

Frequently asked questions
Does Heavenly Benefactor mean I have a good chart?
Seowoon has no calculation that labels a chart good or bad. Heavenly Benefactor means there is a placement associated with receiving help. Its pillar and neighboring Ten Gods help clarify where that support may come from. One placement does not define the whole chart.
What do 2 Heavenly Benefactors mean?
Both branches assigned to your Day Master are present, suggesting two places where help may reach you. Which two pillars they occupy determines where support appears: family·work·partner·later life. The count does not measure how fortunate a person is.
If I have no Heavenly Benefactor, does that mean I have no benefactors?
No. Heavenly Benefactor is just one of six benefactors; Literary Talent·Literary Arts·Supreme Ultimate·Heavenly Virtue·Moon Virtue are separate placements. Charts with strong Resource and Peer groups among the Ten Gods are also read as having plenty of supporting hands.
