Tomb(墓)

Gathering in and storing away (Myo, 墓, Tomb) is the 9th of the 12 life stages. Energy draws inward as though entering a tomb, then rests in a storehouse (Go, 庫).

Tomb is therefore seen as a place of storage rather than an ending. It is associated with gathering and preserving · practicality · thrift, as well as ties to family · ancestors.

What Tomb means

The Tomb branch is always one of four: Jin · Sul · Chuk · Mi. These four Earth (土) branches serve as storage grounds (Goji, 庫地) that gather elemental energy — Jin stores Water, Sul stores Fire, Chuk stores Metal, and Mi stores Wood.

Traditional readings say that a storehouse must open before its contents can be used: Punishment · Clash may open it and reveal what has accumulated. In the day branch, this stage generally describes your relationship with your partner; in the month branch, your work and social life; and in the hour branch, your later years and what comes to fruition.

Which branch places each Day Master in Tomb?

In Seowoon's calculation table, each Day Master reaches Tomb at the following branch: Gap (甲) at Mi (未), Eul (乙) at Sul (戌), Byeong (丙) at Sul (戌), Jeong (丁) at Chuk (丑), Mu (戊) at Sul (戌), Gi (己) at Chuk (丑), Gyeong (庚) at Chuk (丑), Sin (辛) at Jin (辰), Im (壬) at Jin (辰), and Gye (癸) at Mi (未). Yang stems (Gap · Byeong · Mu · Gyeong · Im) move forward through the branches, while yin stems (Eul · Jeong · Gi · Sin · Gye) move backward. Mu Earth follows the same positions as Byeong Fire · Gi Earth follows Jeong Fire (the shared Fire–Earth method).

Schools that do not reverse the order for yin stems assign different positions to yin Day Masters. Check this methodological difference first when comparing results from other sources.

Key traits

This stage is associated with saving, gathering, and protecting what you have gained. It suggests a practical nature with quiet substance, even without outward display.

Tomb in the day branch suggests building a household's resources with a partner; in the month branch, it points toward work involving management · storage.

When it shows up positively

It is read as steadily accumulating wealth and knowledge that may become visible all at once. It may also suggest a role in carrying on family traditions.

What to watch for

Excessive thrift or keeping your heart closed may hold back opportunities and connections, too. A common suggestion is to put what you have stored to use when the time is right.

Careers and Natural Aptitudes

It is considered well suited to work involving gathering and preservation, such as finance · accounting · asset management, real estate, storage · logistics, and history · archaeology · archival research.

Love and relationships

In love, this stage suggests being slow to open your heart but staying committed once you do. A common suggestion is to practice sharing your inner feelings.

Health

Because Tomb represents energy gathering inward, traditional readings encourage releasing accumulated fatigue regularly and keeping movement and circulation part of daily life.

Health readings based on the 12 life stages are traditional metaphors for phases of energy, not diagnoses. Have any physical symptoms assessed medically.

A common misconception

“Tomb is unlucky because it means a grave” is a common claim, but this stage represents a storehouse that gathers and preserves energy. Its meaning depends on what is stored there. For example, Wealth entering Tomb may be read as a storehouse where money accumulates.
