Moon Star(月殺)

The Moon Star (Wolsal, 月殺) is the sixth of the twelve symbolic stars. It appears when your chart contains Sul (戌)·Chuk (丑)·Jin (辰)·Mi (未), as determined by your birth year's Three Harmony group.

It is also called the Withering Star (Gochosal, 枯焦殺), meaning sprouts drying up. Traditionally seen as a warning of obstacles, it can also represent the patience to prepare while waiting for the right time.

What Moon Star means

The Moon Star follows the brilliance of the Peach Blossom, making it a symbol of the dry interval after flowers fade and before fruit forms. It suggests building strength within, even when visible results are slow to arrive.

One chart is all you need to find it. Each Three Harmony group has a designated Moon Star branch — Sin-Ja-Jin (申子辰) births use Sul (戌), Hae-Myo-Mi (亥卯未) births use Chuk (丑), In-O-Sul (寅午戌) births use Jin (辰), and Sa-Yu-Chuk (巳酉丑) births use Mi (未). If that branch appears anywhere in the Four Pillars, the Moon Star is present. Seowoon uses the day branch as the reference for symbolic star readings, while this chart follows the traditional year-branch approach — both use the same chart.

Key traits

It suggests persistence, practicality, and the strength to weather difficult times quietly. Valuing substance over show is a defining trait.

When it shows up positively

It may show up as long preparation bearing fruit eventually, or as using your experience of hardship to help others.

What to watch for

Traditional readings caution against becoming worn down by slow results or losing motivation when life feels dry. A common recommendation is to recognize your own small wins.

Careers and Natural Aptitudes

It is considered a good fit for work requiring lengthy preparation (research·qualifications·specialized skills), management·storage, agriculture·food, and social services·caregiving.

Love and relationships

In relationships, it suggests a bond that deepens slowly without rushing. A common recommendation is to express your feelings often so your affection does not seem distant.

Health

Because the Moon Star represents dryness, older readings advise paying attention to dryness and fatigue.

Health readings based on symbolic stars are traditional interpretations, not diagnoses. Have any symptoms evaluated through medical care.

A common misconception

People often say, “The Moon Star blocks everything you do”, but it is only one of twelve positions. Obstacles are assessed through your whole chart and timing cycles. It is generally read as a symbol of preparation and patience.
