It is most often used for dating and marriage, but the same method applies to any relationship between two people, including parents and children, colleagues, and business partners.

Traits
Traditionally, compatibility has been divided into outer and inner compatibility. Outer compatibility focuses on the year pillars (zodiac signs) and how two people fit together outwardly. Inner compatibility focuses on the day pillars (the self and partner seat) and the relationship between the two people. Saju gives more weight to inner compatibility.
There are five main ways to read compatibility through saju. ① Do the Day Masters' elements support or control each other? ② Do the day branches (partner seats) combine or clash? ③ Does one person supply an element the other lacks? ④ Which Ten God does the other person represent in your chart, including the traditional convention of reading a wife as Wealth in a man's chart and a husband as Officer in a woman's chart? ⑤ Do both people's ten-year periods rise and fall at similar times?
Common signs of good compatibility include day branches linked by Six Harmony·Three Harmony, elements that fill each other's gaps, and one person's chart providing plenty of the favorable energy the other needs. Pairings that call for care include the six day-branch clashes (Ja–O·Chuk–Mi·In–Sin·Myo–Yu·Jin–Sul·Sa–Hae) and Resentment pairings (Ja–Mi·Chuk–O·In–Yu·Myo–Sin·Jin–Hae·Sa–Sul).
Seowoon's “Supporter Map” calculates which Ten God the other person represents relative to your Day Master and displays the connection across five areas: life·wealth·love·growth·destiny. “Match Made in Heaven” explores both charts chapter by chapter and includes a calculated compatibility score.
A common misconception
People still often say, “You should not marry if your zodiac signs are incompatible”, but the zodiac sign is just the year branch, one of eight characters. Looking at Day Masters, day branches, complementary elements, and timing cycles often leads to a very different conclusion. Even clashes or Resentment can be read as a relationship that challenges both people to grow.

Frequently asked questions
What do I need for a compatibility reading?
You need both people's birth dates. Birth times allow us to include the hour pillars for a more detailed reading. Even without birth times, we can still read compatibility between your Day Masters and day branches.
Does a day-branch clash mean we will break up?
It does not determine that. A clash signals friction between your personal worlds, which may mean more frequent conflict. Understanding the pattern and adjusting to each other can also make it a relationship that moves both of you forward.
Are compatibility scores reliable?
A score is only a summary of several criteria. It becomes meaningful when you also look at what contributed to it, such as Day Masters·day branches·complementary elements.
